High Museum of Art by Richard Meier & Partners Architects
Richard Meier & Partners Architects are the designers of the High Museum of Art which is placed at the corner site, at the junction of Peachtree and Sixteenth streets about two miles from downtown Atlanta.
The project includes four quadrants with one carved out which became a monumental atrium. An extended ramp makes the connection between pedestrian-oriented neighborhood and the main entry. The light-filled atrium space is inspired by the central space of the Guggenheim Museum.
Natural light is filling the central space due to the large windows of the atrium walls. Light has a functional role but also represents the symbol of the museum’s role, the place of enlightened cultural values.
