Friendly & Fresh Holiday Home in a Picturesque Landscape

This great house called the Lumbrein Residence has been designed by Hurst Song Architekten, and is located at the periphery of a picturesque village in Graubunden, Switzerland. It offers some amazing views of the mountains and the landscape around.

The architecture of this house is very simple, the type of house that we were drawing when we were on kindergarten and the exterior is clad with wooden planks treated with a dark protective coating. The roof has an unique shape, if we can say so, specially chosen to create a perpendicularity with the mountain face. Even though tries to follow a modern approach, it takes a few characteristics from the traditional architecture.

Inside the residence, there’s a very interesting staircase which leads to the upper rooms and is also the focal point of the entire house, providing at the same time a great filter for the light that invade the interior space on both of the two levels. The staircase is made from spruce planks spanning the concrete partitions. Most of the interior walls and also floors are covered with wood panels, very light, and everything seems so cold and stark. I personally think that it gives the impression that you’re living in the hollow of a tree.
