Urban Meadow Proposal by Barnabas Laris & Adam Vesztergom
The team that won the first prize in the Main Square of Ujpalota competition with the project “Urban Meadow” is formed by the architecture designers: Barnabas Laris, Adam Vesztergom, surroundings designers: Borbala Gyure, Csenge Csontos and the supporting members Nora Kohalmmy and Mark Antal. The location was chosen to be the center of the residential area of Budapest, it has a chaotic appearance due to the varied composition of buildings.
The design of this square is highly influenced by the past and parts of it are torn off from the complex. Vegetation brings life into this area, in the middle of the pedestrian road there is a fountain but it is not seen as an obstacle. Due to the openness of the region it can be easily considered a place for relaxation. The tree vegetation started here since the 70′s so among the towers and the houses of Ujpalota there is a rich green zone.
The main idea of this project was to create a square that could serve as meeting and refreshment point for the people around. Architects created this “public meadow” in the middle of a green area, it is not only an “experience-place” but it has also an important place in the social background of this location.
