Nicholson Residence – A Place of Intimacy by Matt Gibson Architecture + Design
Nicholson Residence in Melbourne, Australia is designed by the Australian architect Matt Gibson. The old building has been renovated and adapted to modern requirements.
This new version of the house provides a more generous engagement with the exterior. The new building offers a flow between the interior space and the exterior one, a continuity of the outside into the living space. The front glass wall reveals a large living room, elegant furniture and light colors, being an open space and continuing with the well equipped kitchen. The outside windows have
wooden black frames and shape the houses’ contour. There is a white and large terrace outside, a place for relaxing, allowing people to admire the view, in the same time being well guarded by the neighbors’ eyes.
The color and material palette is deliberately restrained in the interior so as not to compete with the exterior. The property has wideness, a perfect match and communion between interior and exterior spaces and a lot of intimacy.
