Westcliff Pavilion – A House with a Floating Stone Wall, by GASS
Westcliff pavilion was designed by GASS Architecture Studios. The cottage at 28A Pallinghurst is a steel-framed pavilion structure located on the Westcliff Ridge in Johannesburg, South Africa. The construction in positioned in the middle of a forest, this affording the building a private, tranquil hiding place in the trees juxtaposed with a feeling of floating above the ridge combined with magnificent views of Johannesburg.
The home has a steel frame designed for architectural aesthetic, the façade having a floating stone wall into an attempt of enhancing personality and the feeling of arriving home. The entrance is wide and opens with a huge terrace, with tables and chairs to sit, relax or take your dinner or breakfast. Beyond the terrace there is a floor to ceiling glass wall which protect the interior part of the house by its lack of transparency and, in the same time, opens the space, expanding the inside to outside green landscape of the forest.
The interior living space is large, with minimal furniture, comfortable benches and wooden table, small and cozy interesting bedroom with floor to ceiling glass walls, creating the impression that you sleep in the middle of the forest, practical and clean bathrooms, aspects which define this house as a nest for tranquility and peace in the nature surroundings.
