Hell of the North by SMLWRLD

Hell of the North is a beautiful restaurant/bar located in Melbourne, Australia. It has been crafted around the 19th century hotel and it has lots of Parisian bistro influences. Hell of the North is also know as the 260km cycling event in the north of France, and this name revels for sure the difficulty of the course.
Architects AMLWRLD in collaboration with clients Adam Ferrante (Rose St Artist Market) and Mark Grixti (The European/ Supper Club) made a great team. They thought that the dining space design should be in a great relation with what it’s serving. The answer was the image of the French wine that expresses gentle force and beautiful colors. The selected materials were burnished brass, blackened steel. History was an important element for their plans, it is reflected by the circling moat that separates old from new with blue surfaces.
Ferrante managed the project and took care of the collaborations. Qube Constructions are the builders that made from the existing building the one that is now bringing out the character and the history of the site. The handmade lighting was realized by Volker Haug and Urchin Associates brought the graphic designers. The collaboration was a real success!
