Wildcat Ridge Residence by Voorsanger Architects

Wildcat Ridge Residence is located on a spectacular site at an elevation of 9,200 feet inAspen,Colorado. The landscape is incredibly beautiful but it is also a challenge for the architects because the environment is quite fragile. This is why the site was rehabilitated and reforested and the architects thought at the best solutions in order to build a sustainable residence. At this point the dominant landscape with its alpine vistas was helpful because when they’ve realized the inside outside connection they included rough materials like moss rock.
The rooms orientation was decided in order to capture the beautiful landscape, the public rooms, study and master are west oriented and the guest bedrooms east orientated. From the entrance can be observed that major rooms are on the left side of a long gallery. The space division was realized with long spans , the ceiling height starts at twelve feet and goes to thirty feet.
The house is made from two volumes created by a twelve-foot stone wall of moss rock. Materials used for floors, walls and ceiling is black walnut and for the exterior sandstone and stucco. The energy sources ensures a great temperature during cold winters and hot summers.
