Interims Audimax by Deubzer König + Rimmel Architects

As the German school system needs to improve their schools and lecture halls, Deubzer Konig and Rimmel Architecs were chosen to design Interims Audimax building at the Technical University of Munich inGermany. The number of student got bigger and the space smaller, it was obvious they needed more areas for studying. A new lecture hall for 10-20 years was a temporary solution but a good one. They didn’t have much time or a big budget, it was actually only 60% of regular building costs.

The hall was situated north of the mathematics and computer science department of Technical University Munich, Campus Garching. The structure was made from wood on a 62,5cm grid, the façade covered in black wood stain to avoid the aging process to be visible. After almost 9 months they got two lecture halls with 479 and 288 seats, separated by a corridor. The maxim of seats was assured placing the foyer, bathrooms and technical facilities below the seating. The two halls can be accessed from the two staircases or the first floor corridor that is used also for the access of handicapped people and the speaker.
