MOD Office by Ministry of Design
The Ministry of Design searched for the perfect place for their own design studio. The locale should be large enough to allow them to build the office at a single level. This was an important condition when they were searching for a place. With the activity held on a single level the open communication will improve the creativity and innovation.
At the confluence of Singapore’s historic Chinatown area and the CBD was found the perfect locale. Converting six shop house units into an open office based on disciplined material was a great success. Excluding barriers between rooms brought to the design a familiar touch. The simple lines create a beautiful continuity from space to space.
In the entire space are spanning circulation axes formed by twin datum lines. Here was inserted the term “catwalks”, it describes the mirrored terminus points that elongate the axes. With daily catwalks and other mixed pieces were created gallery spaces, meeting spaces, open plan desks, hot desk discussion zones, library. There are different spaces like the Gallery which can have their design changed without being necessary to change the design of the entire office. MOD Office is a great example of a truly open office.
