Splendid Architecture: The Washington Park Hilltop Residence
The Washington Park Hilltop Residence is designed by Stuart Silk Architects and it’s located in Seattle, Washington. Water is a theme, metaphor, and constant physical presence in this house set on a bluff overlooking Lake Washington. The house benefits from views of the lake, mountain and North Cascades.
An unequal-sided “H” plan places the entry, living and dining areas in a central pavilion, while flanking wings contain the family’s private rooms. The passages to the wings are compressed between water courses, this serving nature to navigate across the interior and exterior spaces. The design of the house is very modern and complex. Though the building is geometrically simple, it offers a rich juxtaposition of solidity, transparency and liquid movement. An ample terrace leads you to the living space, with floor to ceiling windows allowing natural light to flood the inner space.
The interior has sobriety, elegance and coziness, through the nice fireplace placed in the living. The kitchen is cheerful, offering an intimate atmosphere; the dining table invites you to enjoy an intimate family dinner by the fireplace. The house is a real solid shelter for a family.
