Contemporary Architecture: The Oxlade House
This impressive building called the Oxlade House has been designed by studio Arkhefield and is located within a transitional zone between traditional Queenslanders and a mix of post-1960s housing stock in Queensland, Australia.
The architects have approach a contemporary architecture with modern and luxurious elements, and a Character Housing typology. Although is all about modern and stylish it adopts a few abstracts traditional typologies, as for example a solid ‘core’ with integrated verandas, legible roof, and layered screening. The spacial and experiential transition are explored at limit, from public to private, and from hard to soft. The outdoor spaces include a beautiful swimming pool and a few small lakes, to admire from the veranda.
The interior design is absolutely gorgeous, i just love it. This time the kitchen is my favourite, with a dark wood floor and a beautiful lacquered white table sustained just on one side. The focal point of the entire house are the circular stairs, displaying a contrast between the dark wood and the white. Another spectacular aspect of this house is the living room, with an unique design approach featuring a big circular couch covered in leather with a round table in the middle and a fascinating painting on the wall.
