Shadowboxx Residence, an Open Residence as a Shelter of Your Dreams
Olson Kundig Architects designed Shadowboxx, an open residence flanked by trees and a rising bank, on the island of Lopez in the U.S. state of Washington.
Enjoying a beautiful landscape, the house seems to be a shelter, an intimate corner of retreat, facilitating its inhabitants to intimately understand this special place. The house looks romantic and in a perfect communion with nature, seeming a boat on a lake. There are shifting doors, shutters, walls and roofs which constantly modulate the threshold between inside and outside, transforming the building into an element from nature. A seamless transition from one room to another may remind one of the displayed articles of an art gallery. The most spectacular interior of the Shadowboxx is probably the bathhouse, topped by a roof that can be detached at the push of a button. The large living space is dressed up in wood, looking to the interior of a rustic chalet, with a hospitable fireplace in its middle, two large soft sofas placed comfortable on both sides of the fireplace, inviting you to relaxation and pleasure.
As a continuation of the living space the kitchen displays its equipment, enhancing the practical aspect of the space. As concerning to the large floor to ceiling windows, they allow you to admire nature as if you were outside and bring natural light inside. The house is a perfect shelter for a weekend far away from civilization.
