Tianmen Mountain Restaurant by Liu Chongxiao

The Tianmen Mountain Restaurant was designed by Liu Chongxiao and is located in a beautiful area on riverside opposite the peach blossom island in Guilin, China.

The concept idea was to create an intimate and beautiful restaurant that could offers some spectacular views, a true viewfinder. The architects has combined two strong elements, the natural Environment with the manmade boundary surface and have created this 627-square-meters building that offers visitors an unique experience. The interior space of the restaurant contains repast space, kitchen and toilet, and gives a very warm and cozy feeling due to the wood strips incorporated between the windows and lighten by the sun.

The architecture is very bold and it differentiate from the modernist concrete restaurants, offering something new. The structure is supported by steel beams, which accommodate several strip windows which allows the natural light to invade the interior space and offers some great views from outside. Being located on the riverside, the ground floor is elevated to respond the change of water levels. From the exterior the building looks like an association of triangular windows, each of them having a different size and shape. I really like this asymmetrical combination, with different angle, shape because it accentuates the views.
