The large floor to ceiling glass walls offer a splendid view to the sight, allowing light to flood the inner space, invading every corner, enlightening your soul, giving energy. Sitting comfortable on the generous sofa in the living room, you can admire the entire garden and forest, feeling in the middle of nature, in a trip or an expedition. The small wooden log table enhances the impression of a picnic in the forest. The kitchen is clean, with wooden furniture, well equipped and comfortable, flooded in light coming from the glass doors.

A small wooden staircase leads you to the upper floor where cozy bedrooms with wooden furniture complete the image of a very comfortable and hospitable home in the forest, a minimal intrusion into the hillside topography.

The Mausoleum entry is guarded by trees and the entry’s chiseled clerestory windows and canted recesses hint at the building’s interior functions and complexity, while reducing the structure’s visual heft. The visual effect is enhanced by water, so that the building is reflected into the lake, showing an image upside down, which, together with the green lawn, create a relaxing effect. The Garden Mausoleum entrance at street level represents only a small fraction of the total building mass, and includes a reception room and lounge, a small business office, and catering facilities. A full two-thirds of the building lies below, tucked quietly into a south-facing hill and overlooking the lower garden. The place is all mosaic, arcs and granite masses. The contrast of textures – light and dark, rough and smooth, rustic and refined – touches both visual and tactile senses.

The large glass doors allow natural light to flood the space and to enlighten visitor’s souls. The building also contains a small chapel for committal ceremonies, which offers a contemplative space, ensuring a high degree of privacy for grieving. The Mausoleum is indeed an architectural monument, with grace and vitality.

An important aspect of the house is to separate dining area screened from the kitchen that would still maintain a spatial connection. The kitchen in a timber insertion is elegant and well equipped, displaying modern utilities in a tactile combination of materials – wood nd concrete – in warm colors, to enhance hospitality. During the day, skylights and long windows wash perpendicular walls, so the space receives a reflected and ambient glow of light. The bedroom is completely dressed up in wood, providing a high level of privacy, making you feel isolated from all the other possible guests or activities of the house. The house seems to establish a new order by the architecture, allowing its members to keep up with their busy lifestyle while also providing respite from it.

On a sloping site in West Lake Hills, this house slides in between mature Live Oaks to create a strong connection to nature and establish a unique sense of place. The form of the house is long and linear, following the natural topography of the site. A stretch of sliding glass doors pockets completely into the walls, creating a 40’ wide opening between the living area and outdoor spaces. The exterior of the house is made of stone, combined with wood, mixing together a warm and a cold material, enhancing your desire to come inside and admire the gorgeous interior. Floor to ceiling glass and deep overhangs create spaces that are both dynamic and comfortable. From the grey porcelain tile floors to the extensive black walnut built-ins, the house was designed and detailed to be easygoing and flexible.

A large terrace invites you inside, where the living space is continued to the kitchen and the dining space, creating an oasis of welcoming and hospitality. The result is a home that functions equally well for a large party as for a quiet moment taking in the sunrise.

The house is essentially set into the mountain, with terraces extending inside the house to overlap internal and external space.
