Altamira Residence by Marmol Radziner
Palos Verdes Peninsula from California is the perfect place for your dream house, it keeps the feel of the childhood camping trips and family picnics impressing with its amazing landscape. Altamira Ranch is the residence that occupies 20 acres on this site without disturbing the land more than necessary. The designer, Marmol Radziner created this projects as a four separate buildings: main house, study, guest house and the garage. A great idea was to submerge the buildings in order to reduce the amount of site, this is how the house is partially buried and has a strong connection with the ocean. Actually the architecture was realized depending on the lines of the nature so the owner of the house could enjoy all its beauty.
Lines and textures of the nature are found in the interior design making the connection stronger. Materials as local shale and boulders were used for building the walls and decorating the area, also they’ve got 30,000 plants contract-grown. As we get closer to the house the large areas of sand interrupt the masses of shrubs and the plants become shorter. The environment kept his unique and charming characteristics embracing the gorgeous house, creating a dreamlike atmosphere.
