Cute Camelia Cottage

Camelia Cottage is a project on 12 sqm (new works) 34 sqm (works to existing) finished in year 2008. The house is located in Melbourne, Australia and the chosen architects are 4site Architecture. This terrace house has a very low budget, this was one of the reasons why the existing toilette was kept. It is all about reorganization, with some remarkable changes the space can be more usable and comfortable.

The existing terrace house had a nice space organization, it didn’t had to many changes and the new part has a really different design so the insertion could be easily seen. Its fresh, welcoming atmosphere comes like a blossom in the urban landscape. The inside-outside connection is made by a colorful joinery wall that houses various storage cupboards not only inside but also outside. It also forms the entry to the existing bathroom. The wall is separated by a bi-fold door which makes this connection even stronger.

Natural light is ensured by the 19th century living windows, they are also providing ventilation to the blocked bedroom window. From the new lean-to into the living room was added a platform as an additional built in seating. With a small budget was possible to bring color and modern touch into this small space.
