Amazing House in Mooikloof by Nico van der Meulen Architects
House in Mooikloof has been designed by Nico van der Meulen Architects and is located in Pretoria, South Africa.
The owners want the architects “to design a stunning, cutting-edge, contemporary home” with a beautiful indoor swimming pool, and to express their ideas on a large site (10 000m2). The architects have used the latest technology such as advanced 3D computer software to explore the home three-dimensionally, and the outcome was a design where form meets function. The 3D design of the building is represented by the intersecting planes of steel and glass ‘hovering’, while the privacy and the sun control is provided by aluminium louvers.
The interior design tries to accentuate the architecture of the home, using intersecting planes to create different points of interest. The color palette is monochromatic but with a few accents of red, having in mind the idea of a holistic edifice, where the boundaries from inside to out are diffused. To offer some amazing landscape views and to create level differences in the ground floor plane, the ground floor was purposely lifted above the landscape.
The home combines the aesthetics and functionality in a cutting-edge design, in a modern South African residence with a contemporary look.
