Roomba Light Paintings
What you’re going to see in the next shots is actually the work of a modern vacum cleaner called roomba. This smart vacum cleaner features an accelerometer whose reading determines which of three LEDs is lit right.
This kind of innovative vacum cleaner represents a popular choice in several competitions, but now it comes with something new, taking in consideration the artistic area which was left unexplored until now. The next series of pictures were taken timelapsed, to illustrate the beauty of ‘light painting’ photographs. The owner thought about attaching some coloured LEDs to the devices and let them roam for the duration of a long-exposure photograph. As you can see in one of the pictures they’ve used a three coloured LEDs on the bottom right, accelerometer in the center, and an arduino microcontroller on the bottom left.
The IBR algorithm group at germany’s Braunschweig University of Technology, is very well known for creating designs by constructing obstacles, and they’ve designed a space that the roombas cannot pass into and so that specific space remains dark. The accelerometer-driven LEDs used for the roomba creates a variety of colour lights depending on the roomba’s movement, and the result is absolutely stunning.
