La Condesa by Michael Hsu Office of Architecture

Architect Michael Hsu Office of Architecture in collaboration with local designers, artists and artisans created La Condesa. The 4,400 sqf project is located on 400A West 2nd Street, Austin, TX, USA.

La Condesa design is based on contrasting textures, colors and levels of finish and craft inspired by Mexico contemporary architecture. In the center of the restaurant, concrete stairs are the binder through a separate bar, Malverde. Over the dining table is placed a cascading light fixture made from off-the-shelf parts contrasts with the industrial materials.

For building it were used concrete masonry block and raw steel, wood and fabric. An old general store on the site from the 1870’s has been restored and repurposed, it is placed downstairs and it gives a mystic touch to the restaurant.
