SOM Awarded Commission for Green Tech City in Vietnam
Skidmore Owings & Merrill was awarded for a Green Tech City in Hanoi, Vietnam. Their project is based on non-renewable resources while integrating local traditions and utilizing the existing green urban character of Hanoi.
The plan covers an area of 145 hectares including two existing villages with future development, so the local traditions and green urban character will be reinforced. In addition are coming the “Green Corridor” and a Cultural Forum building plan. A complete urban living environment will emerge on site, including a variety of housing types integrated with schools, healthcare clinics, sports and other public facilities. Each neighborhood will have its intimate outdoor spaces due to public green spaces.
In order to maximize comfort and minimize infrastructure requirements and energy costs they determined the optimal orientation of streets and buildings using wind and solar analyses.
